Father's Day 2009

By Sheryl Rosen

Dear Dad

I was going to send you a card

but couldn't find one outside of humor

which conveyed what is needed to say.

What's to say?

You're my dad; a lot in life.

It could have been better,

or could have been far worse -

but the glass was always no less than half full

which at times I did not see.

You always understood that.

I am grown up for many years now

with children of my own and responsibilities to handle

yet somehow when life hits me in the head

I still find a need to come home. Perhaps because

you provide the same unconditional love fostered since youth;

I know exactly where to go.

Home is where the heart is.

It's a big place but only openned 24/7/365 to a special few;

the one thing I can rely on - my dad.

Happy Father's Day

I Love You,

Sheryl

To My Readers;

Every year I try to remember to write a poem (evidently not my main venue) not only on Mother's day but also on other important days, like Valentine's day, for these are the days meant to share with those we love most and as such bear the greatest significance.  I will add Father's Day this year, a far more difficult subject since having lived in female dominated homes I am less equipped to understand the male mind - but will try since sentiment is not gender based.

Love is the only emotion I rarely find humorous, though appreciate the value of it's place as well. I shall try in the future, but not for this coming Father's Day for this past year, like all others thus far, has been at times highly difficult.  None the less thank goodness for the deep seeds of love.  Without that, I can not say what else makes life worth living.

For those who find themselves alone on these days, realign your ideals.  It's a choice to be alone and not a condition which must be endured; yet there are times when private moments are as sacred and those which are shared. I hope for those who do not wish to be alone, they reach out finding warmth on the other end. It's there if you look for it. Searching has never failed me.

This babble was written by the need of 400 words to qualify for submission. Hope you enjoy my poem - the rest is............c%$p
