Episode Two & Three - A Moment at Starbucks before the Subway
I went into Starbucks, not to get coffee but to get change for the subway. I needed a quarter. I cut the line; after all I am not placing an order, apparently much to the annoyance of the customer awaiting their coffee at the cashier. “Get in line you need to wait your turn like everyone else,” I am chided. No need to address this grouch, I think and hand my dollar bill to the cashier with the open register. After the complaining customer has already received their change, and while I am still holding my hand out to receive my four quarters, I am pushed aside smacked by the grouch’s shoulder. Ok, that’s it. I have been verbally and physically assaulted so with my big mouth I call out, “Hey, unlike you the rest of the world does not need to have coffee first thing in the morning to become civil.” I then proceed to the subway. While I am going down the stairwell with my change in hand, I stop for a brief instant in order to move my purse from one arm to the next so that the hand closest to the rail can grab hold of it. Again I am accosted, bumped into rather harshly and hear a grouse, “move it, slowpoke” to which I call back as I stabilize myself, “It must really suck to have to share this earth with others.” The offender must have heard me for she turned back and actually apologized.
