Yesterday, a spokesperson from Ebay Inc., Marian Goldsmith-Shinji, hinted that the mega home-based business advocate, and online retailer/auction king is contemplating of purchasing the undisputed social networking site, Facebook. It has been a speculative rumor that the two online giants have been seen placing heavy ads on each others turf. Some might suspected that the two were testing each others water to see members’ reactions. Since July of 2010, Ebay home-based business owner circuit and the blogosphere have been rumored with the talk of acquisition but no specifics on who’s buying who. Some expected a synergy and some believed the rumors were just a publicity stunt cooked by big investors and Wall Street speculators.
Shinji, also the head of Ebay Home-based Business Development or EHBD, was a bit cryptic on her explanation on why the company has the sudden urge of investing close to a $100 Billion of their assets as the initial purchase plus a $40 per speculated member for the following two years from closing the deal. Although the final decision by both companies to start the negotiation only came two days ago, it has been six months of millions of dollars worth of market testing, studies and analysis by both parties prior to the negotiation table.

What’s in it for Ebay? Well, a lot of good stuff could be anticipated from this mega deal of the century. But the majority of potential benefits were quickly viewed by the public to be heading to Ebay’s court. First, the Ebay Home-based Business Association is predicting that a direct specific retail/auction item exposure to a specific genre or type of Facebook network could start an avalanche of new buyers. Second, a direct auction listing from one member to another network member will allow members to directly pitch each other a listed item. And third, a variable direct discount, depending on the size of the network, on network groups offered by Ebay’s advertisers, auctioneers and the Ebay Home-based Business Association members.
What’s in it for Facebook? A big lump sum of cash and an undecided profit portion of every sale from a Facebook member should be enough. Also, Facebook has offered a discounted stock option for its network groups, depending on the group’s status, viability, member quality and longevity. Facebook has also been busy sponsoring big non-profit foundations and setting up its own online university.
But everyone, including the American Ebay Home-based Business Association (AEHBA) members, must not hold your breathe for no one could really predict the outcome of this deal. For all we know, Facebook may very well have a change of heart and join the Google-Yahoo Empire. After all, Facebook may have a better chance of a better future if to join a closer specie.
